Laser Pigmentation Removal

How does the procedure work?

Q-switched ND Yag lasers are considered by dermatologists to be the most advanced and effective way of removing pigmentation, tattoos and thread veins with consistently predictable results and little chance of side effects they are widely acknowledged as a gold standard.

The laser delivers light in billionth of a second applying a powerful pulse of energy which is then absorbed by the unwanted pigmentation. The resulting heat penetrates through the top layer of skin and shatters the pigmentation into small pigment particles. Your body's immune system recognises these particles as something that shouldn't be there and gradually absorbs them into the body via the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system flushes out the particles and naturally disposes of them.
How many treatments does it take to remove the pigmentation?

Everybody responds differently due to a number of different variables. There are variations in skin type and individual immune system factors. Predicting how many treatments any particular client will require is an educated guess. During your consultation, your technician will make an estimate of the number of sessions needed to remove your pigmentation.
How frequently can I return for more treatments?

Approximately 4-6 weeks. A gradual fading of the pigmentation occurs within this time. Treatments are scheduled no closer than 4 weeks apart.
What preparation is require before treatment?

Please shave the area 24 hours before treatment and avoid any creams, lotions and perfumes. A reduced blood sugar level can make you feel faint or queasy so it is essential that you eat something about an hour before treatment. Sunbathing and Sunbeds should be avoided at least 4 weeks before treatment and throughout treatment.
How is the treatment carried out?

Protective eye glasses are provided and the skin will be cleaned, the laser head is then passed over the pigmentation releasing quick pulses of light, a clicking noise is often heard as the particles break down. The area will be tender for up to 48 hours. A bandage or dressing may be used to protect the area. Initially the pigmentation is unlikely to look any different but will start to fade over the following 4-8 weeks as the body disperses it.
Aftercare

Usually, it feels like a mild sunburn and does not hurt unless rubbed against. Between your treatments, it is important to keep the treated area covered from the sun to prevent hyper-pigmentation (darkening). You will receive detailed instructions during your appointment and an aftercare sheet to take home with you.
